Sometimes a good thing can be better with some TLC. The Billy Wood Appliance showroom and offices building on Hilton Head Island had existed quietly and contently over on Marshland Road for longer than most of us feel like trying to remember. Luckily, the actual showrooms inside were and continue to be some of the industry leaders in technology and content, so of course with each new manufacturer line came many ongoing updates to the interiors. But aside from basic upkeep and some occasional painting and signage changes, the exterior stayed fairly constant. So, the challenge here was to give a great building and outstanding local business a facelift.
Luckily, we had some inspiration from Billy Wood’s new “old” showroom in Old Town Bluffton. That can be seen in the painted Bricks and blocks and walls sconced in black with signage on light with sans serif. We added some feelings of Hilton Head - wood, light and depth, some detail in brick, then more wood, some different wood, cut stone treads, plants and a little bit more rural feel with wide easy and slow stairs, a ramp and then a stepped terrace entry reminiscent of earlier Hilton Head entryways.
These unedited .jpeg photos come straight out of a Fujifilm X-T5 using FUJINON XF18mmF2 R and FUJINON XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR lenses; the prime with UV filter, the zoom with none. Most use Velvia film simulation, a few are standard, with Kodak 1976, one or two Rockwell, and some custom recipes.
